A quantitative approach descriptive survey was conducted among randomly selected 150 adolescent at a selected higher secondary school to assess the knowledge and attitude of adolescents regarding suicide. The objectives of the study were to identify the knowledge of adolescents regarding suicide, determine the attitude of adolescents regarding suicide, and correlate the knowledge level and level of attitude of adolescents regarding suicide. The data was collected using self-administered tools that included socio-demographic schedule, knowledge questionnaire regarding suicide and attitude scale on suicide. The major finding showed that majority of the sample had poor knowledge and none of them had good knowledge regarding suicide. The suicide attitude scores showed that little over half of the subjects had conservative attitude and none of them had liberal attitude towards suicide. Neither knowledge nor attitude of adolescents is associated with selected demographic variables.

Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) results, a life-long impairment in social and language functioning of children which results significant distress for their parents. Social support has been found to be an important ‘buffer’ against family crisis. Studies reveals that, ‘Stress negatively influences and accounted for most variation in coping’ and “Social support positively influences coping”. To correlate stress and social support descriptive correlative research design was adopted. This study was conducted at child and adolescent psychiatry OPD in NIMHANS. Fifty study subjects (Parents) were selected by simple random technique. Autism Parenting Stress Scale (APSI) and Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) tools were used. Collected data systematically coded, computed and analyzed using descriptive inferential statistics and Karl Pearson. Findings revealed that, there was a significant positive correlation between stress and social support (p = 0.01) hence perceived social support did not help to reduce the parental stress.

Everyone experiences stress from womb to tomb. But being aged means getting more prone to have psychosocial stress, as aging itself involves lots of bio-psychosocial changes. Therefore, exploratory study was conducted in the month of December 2012 at selected old age homes of district Ludhiana. The objective of this study was to assess the level of psychosocial stresses among elderly residing in selected old age homes, to explore their family pattern, and to compare the level of psychosocial stresses according to the family pattern. A sample of 60 subjects (elderly above 60 years of age) was selected through total enumerative sampling. Data was collected using standardized Stokes/Gordon’s Stress Scale [SGGS]. It was found that 77 % of subjects living in old age homes were in mild psychosocial stress, while 23 % were having moderate psychosocial stress. And none of the subject was found to be in severe psychosocial stress. It was also concluded that female elderly and those residing in old age homes from less than one year were having significantly higher level of psychosocial stress. It was generally observed that although majority of subjects had co residence (i.e. lived with spouse and children) as their actual living arrangement but preference to live alone was high. Moreover, most of the elderly had sons and daughters alive, but none of them were accompanying or caring them.

This study evaluated the effectiveness of a structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding home care of intellectually disabled children among caregivers in a selected special school, Ernakulam district, Kerala. All over the world 83 million people are intellectually disabled. In India, 5 out of 1000 children are intellectually disabled. The researcher used a quantitative approach with quasi experimental one group pre test post test design was done on 40 caregivers who were selected by simple random sampling. The tool used in the present study was a self administered, structured knowledge assessment questionnaire. The result showed that there was statistically significant increase in knowledge score obtained by subjects regarding homecare of intellectually disabled children, in all the six dimensions after exposure to structured teaching programme. There is no significant association between the pre-test knowledge of caregivers and their selected demographic variables and the child variables.

Adolescence is one of the most dynamic stages of human development. Simple relaxation methods can reverse the conditions caused by anxiety. Jacobson stated since muscle tension accompanies anxiety, one can reduce anxiety by learning how to relax the muscular tension. A quasi experimental approach, one group pre-test post-test design was used to assess the effectiveness of progressive muscle relaxation technique on anxiety among adolescents in selected colleges, Tirupati. A sample of 60 adolescents were selected by using non- probability convenient sampling technique at Narayana Junior College, Tirupati. The tools used for conducting the study were a set of demographic variables and Zung Self Rating Anxiety Scale. The subjects were administered progressive muscle relaxation technique for 30 days with pre and post assessment of anxiety levels. Data were analyzed with the help of descriptive and inferential statistics. Among 60 adolescents, 15(25%) of adolescents had mild to moderate level of anxiety, 39(65%) had marked to severe level of anxiety and 6(10%) had extreme level of anxiety in the pre assessment of anxiety levels. After the administration of progressive muscle relaxation technique, majority of the respondents 55 (91.7%) had normal range, 5(8.3%) had mild to moderate anxiety in the post assessment. It represents that progressive muscle relaxation technique was effective in reduction of anxiety among adolescents. There was no statistical significant association was found between post assessment of anxiety levels with the demographic variables. Finally, it was concluded that progressive muscle relaxation technique was effective in reducing anxiety among adolescents

A prospective, case control and cross sectional study was undertaken to find out the effect on self concept of children due to Nephrotic syndrome. A total of ninety children (60 patients with varying degree of nephrotic syndrome and 30 controls), aged between 8 to 18 years were assessed. Tools: a tool which consisted of demographic and select variables profile and other is a standardized Piers Harris children’s self concept scale. Informed consent was obtained from the patients and parents. Ethical clearance was obtained from ethics committee of study setting. Results: Both the patients and controls had ‘high’ and ‘very high’ self concept. None of the subjects had ‘low’ or ‘moderate’ self concept. Patients having less severe form of nephrotic syndrome were more happy and satisfied than the patients having more severe form of nephrotic syndrome although the global self concept score was same in both the groups.

Schizophrenia characterized by a breakdown in thinking and poor emotional responses. Schizophrenia causes significant social and work problems. The aim of this study is to find out the association of burden among caregivers with their selected demographical variables and with Persons with schizophrenia demographical variables. A cross sectional descriptive research design was employed by using non-probability convenient sampling technique. Data was collected by using a BASS standardized interview questionnaire from 210 caregivers of schizophrenic clients on a psychiatric ward and outpatient department, SVRRGGH, Tirupati. Majority (37.6%) had mild burden followed by 31.9% had moderate burden, and 30.5% had severe burden. There is a significant relationship between knowledge with caregivers variables like age, marital status, type of family at the level of p<0.05 and occupation, residence, monthly income and relationship to patient at the levels of p<0.01.

Availability of Simulation Technique to bridge the gap in Psychiatric Nursing affords an excellent opportunity to provide increased facility for training the student nurses. This is extremely relevant since in the last decade there has been an increase in the member of nursing colleges in India, to meet the demand for nursing staff. This expansion offers several challenges in providing opportunities for bedside clinical teaching. It is in this context, simulation technique has been found to be very helpful in offering training to the nursing students, so that, they get equipped adequately to meet the challenges encountered when they are posted for duty in clinical settings.

A cross sectional survey was conducted among 60 subjects aged 60 years and above. The subjects in group was the geriatric population visiting Geriatric OPD, AIIMS, New Delhi. The convenient sampling technique was followed. General health questionnaire 12 administered to the subjects to detect those likely to have or be at risk of developing psychiatric disorders, domains of depression, anxiety, somatic symptoms, and social withdrawal. Study Result shows that 26.7% of elderly patients had evidence of psychological distress. It was found that the prevalence of psychological distress was 20% among elderly and illness and disability are related to psychological distress in old age with the feeling of loneliness is the single most important predictor of psychological distress. An immediate attention and remedial actions are to be taken for them so that they will be able to adapt healthy life style to improve the mental health status of older persons.

Radiological technology is the production of images of internal organs and structures by passing a small, highly controlled amount of radiation through the human body, and capturing the resulting image on a image recording device. The field of radiological technology also includes therapeutic procedures, often referred to as interventional radiology. Interventional radiology is used in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of injury and disease. Certain patients who undergo MRI/CT examinations may undergo great emotional distress. Distress can range from mild anxiety up to a serious panic attack that may require psychiatric intervention. This study was conducted at NIMHANS to assess the client’s perception level regarding the various radio diagnostic procedures. Descriptive research design was used for the study. Study Sample was 30. The Data was collected for duration of two months. Convenience sampling technique was adopted for the study. Socio demographic data schedule and perception assessment tool regarding CT/MRI was used to collect the information the results showed that the perception mean score was 7.93 with standard deviation of 2.62. There was no statistically significant association between the selected socio demographic variables such as age, gender, residence, education and occupation and perception scores of the clients.

The objective of this study was to assess and compare the knowledge and attitude regarding female domestic violence among male and female adults in the MMIMS&R hospital, Mullana, Ambala, Haryana. The subjects were the male and female adult visitors of patients admitted in the MMIMS&R hospital. Total sample of the study was 200 (100 male and 100 female adults). A structured questionnaire and 5- point likert scale was prepared focusing on knowledge and attitude of male and female adults regarding female domestic violence. The mean knowledge score of female adults (20.21) was higher than mean knowledge score of male adults (17.62) regarding female domestic violence. The mean attitude score of female adults (104.91) was higher than the mean attitude score of male adults (95.18). It shows that female adults had favorable attitude towards prevention and management of female domestic violence. The coefficient of co-relation between knowledge scores and attitude scores obtained by male adults was (0.63) suggesting a positive co-relation and moderate range between knowledge scores and attitude scores. The coefficient of co-relation between knowledge scores and attitude scores obtained by female adults was (0.60) suggesting a positive co-relation and moderate range between knowledge scores and attitude scores. There was association of levels of knowledge and attitude of male adults with own income and victim of domestic violence and for female adults association was with partner’s income and type of family. The study concludes that female adults had very good knowledge and favorable attitude regarding prevention and management of female domestic violence as compared to the male adults.
